Introduction

Thank you Ramon. The communications skills mentoring program started three years ago with a partnership formed between the Academy and the Bayer Institute for Healthcare Communication. We've taught a number of successful workshops and had excellent scores and evaluations. The basic premise is that communications skills isn't about whether you have a good bedside manner or a good personality. It's about whether or not you really studied the medical interview as a procedure, the most common procedure that we will all do, perhaps 100 to 150,000 times in our careers. And as with any other procedure there are techniques that you can use to improve your skills and both obtain a better diagnosis and a better outcome for your patient.
