Welcome to the Risk Management Continuing Medical Education Web Site

This Web site is compiled by the Medical Liability Committee and brings together resources for continuing medical education in topics on risk management.

This website has been created by the Medical Liability Committee to serve as a central repository for Risk Management educational programs of the AAOS. It is our belief that as AAOS Members become more cognizant of ways to reduce their liability risk, their exposure will decrease and they will also provide better care for their patients.

This page contains a list of topics covered in various AAOS on-line, electronic or live courses which we feel have merit in achieving the goals of risk management. Each topic is linked to an on-line course, a CD/DVD or live course. Except for the Communication Skills Mentoring Course, all activities on this page can be completed by the AAOS member, electronically, from home or office. Completing the course will qualify for the number of specified hours of Category 1 ACCME approved credit, which the AAOS will also designate as Risk Management CME. These CME credits, which will appear on your AAOS transcript, may also be used to satisfy your state licensure requirements.

Risk Management CME credits may also be used to obtain a discount on Medical Malpractice Insurance Premiums purchased from some participating insurers. The insurance company link will identify those insurance companies which provide a premium discount now. We hope to have many more participating insurance carriers in the future

Evidence-Based Practice Resources

What is evidence-based practice? In a nutshell, evidence-based practice is the careful balance and integration of three key components — the best available research evidence, clinical expertise, and patient value references. This new website on OKO compiles information on evidence-based practice into one convenient online location.
