Total Joint Replacement: Questions Patients Should Ask Their Surgeon
Posterior and anterior approaches to total hip arthroplasty are considered. Many surgeons use the posterior approach routinely for their primary total hip arthroplasty. Because of the extensile nature of the posterior approach and the excellent exposure it affords, it is our approach of choice for revision hip arthroplasty. The Modified Hardinge procedure is also covered because some surgeons use this approach routinely for their primary total hip arthroplasty or selectively, in cases of high risk of posterior dislocation postoperatively.
