In this audio slide lecture, Dr. William Hozack focuses on recent outcome studies to discuss the pros and cons of using mini-incision and minimally invasive surgery to perform total hip arthroplasty. In light of available data, Dr. Hozack concludes that there are really no differences between a mini-incision and a standard incision total hip arthroplasty and that the advantages perceived from such approaches are seldom validated by published reports. Similarly, Dr. Hozack finds that the alleged advantages of minimally invasive surgery in regard to a quicker recovery and earlier discharge have not been substantiated by published clinical reports.
