A Surgical Technique for Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction in the Skeletally Immature

A surgical technique to treat skeletally immature patients with patellar instability and open physes is described. With recent evidence supporting anatomic origin of the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) distal to the physis, we present a safe surgical technique to reconstruct the MPFL with a physeal-sparing technique. Thirty-five consecutive patients with open physes have undergone MPFL reconstruction with four revisions and no physeal injury.
