Recent developments in the use of additive manufacturing to create novel bone scaffolds have gained attention. While traditional 3D printing techniques require extremely high temperatures, novel methods can print materials at ambient room temperatures. This room temperature extrusion 3D printing technique can have a number of advantages, including the capacity to incorporate and retain bioactive growth factors, make brittle materials into hyperelastic and user-friendly scaffolds, and that they allow for higher percentage of ceramic components, such as hydroxyapatite.
