AAOS Urges Changes to 2016 Fee Schedule
On Sept. 8, 2015, the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on two important proposed rules that address payment policies under Medicare. In both cases, the AAOS recommended significant changes to address concerns by the orthopaedic community about the impact of the proposed rules.
Giving Zion Two Hands
The surgery made headlines around the world. In June, 8-year-old Zion Harvey became the first child and youngest person ever to receive a bilateral hand transplant. In the hand surgery world, the event was akin to landing a man on the moon—pretty incredible. The surgery was special in many ways—a stunning technical achievement, a unique collaboration among institutions, and a generous humanitarian gesture.
